“Call Girl of Cthulhu” is a horror-comedy film directed by Chris LaMartina in 2014. The story revolves around Carter, a shy artist who is haunted by strange visions. When he finds a mysterious book in an antique shop one day, his life is turned upside down.
The book, which turns out to be the “Necronomicon of the Succubus”, contains occult rituals and instructions for summoning Cthulhu, an ancient cosmic deity of horror. Carter becomes the focus of a secret cult community bent on resurrecting Cthulhu, and they see him as the chosen key to doing so.
In parallel, Carter meets a young woman named Riley who works as an escort. Riley is no ordinary call girl, however, but a prostitute with a secret talent for performing bizarre body horror theatre. Carter and Riley develop an unusual relationship as Carter tries to understand his visions and discover the meaning behind the book.
The film “Call Girl of Cthulhu” stands out for its absurd and bizarre nature. One of the most ludicrous scenes involves a performance in which Riley transforms her body into a living musical instrument. The audience witnesses flowing blood, bizarre sounds and surreal visual effects that fascinate and shock the audience in equal measure.
Another absurd scene takes place in a seedy swingers’ club where strange creatures gather to act out their perverted fantasies. The depiction of these bizarre creatures and their sexual escapades creates a mix of discomfort and laughs that underlines the tone of the film.
